Most of the fans of the survival horror game genre certainly know with this name, Shinji Mikami. He is the "father" of Resident Evil, which could even be called the originator of the survival horror genre. Under the hands Mikami, Resident Evil look so charming in the past, offering a strong horror atmosphere, not only through the theme but also the gameplay mechanics offered.
As a reaction to changes in the genre Resident Evil that is become more action, Shinji Mikami creates another game - The Evil Within that looks promising. Diverse gameplay trailer and screenshots were released over the last few weeks it appears so tempting. What exactly is the key to building a quality horror game? Mikami answered with one simple word - uncertainty.
Mikami revealed in an interview with The Guardian's website. Mikami said that the key lies in a horror game character with uncertainty whether they will be able to live or die should be consistent. To be able to offer this sensation, Mikami took some design formulas which he applied in The Evil Within. The first is the threat that largely follows the shape of human design and not unclear monsters. He asserted that psychologically, humans are more easily felt scared and attracted to other human beings.
While both formulas lead to the design of the gameplay, which makes survival and death into something that is consistently present and drowned. There is always a situation where players can not be sure 100% that they are able to avoid or defeat the enemy in sight. When players decide to continue testing the probability, although small as possible to get through this threat, where the sensation of horror can be created optimally. This Designs is very important for mikami.
Departing from the same formula, Mikami asserted that he was not interested in creating a game that allows gamers to make bullets as answer to all problems. The character just stay in one place and shoot blindly without any consequences.
The Evil Within itself will be released on October 14, 2014 for Playstation 3, Playstation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and of course - the PC.
